Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls
Director Leanne Pooley Present for Apr 22 Screening.
TRAILER
At a very young age twins Lynda and Jools came out of the closet. The dynamic (and funny) duo started performing as the Topp Twins early on in life. Now they're in their 60s and two of the most in-demand cabaret artists in New Zealand. Topp Twins is directed by Leanne Pooley who, rightly, gives these girls an ample opportunity to shine.
They grew up on a farm surrounded by all kinds of animals. The Through the years they have played in every New Zealand dump and at every manifestation for the environment and human rights, but also at a number of farm expos. The Topp Twins, coming from a conservative rural area, have made an entire nation see that being a lesbian doesn't have to mean excluding other people. With their music and humor Lynda and Jools include everyone in their circle. Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls is an extremely heartwarming but unsentimental film that won the audience award at the Toronto film festival. (MSPIFF)
“On paper, says comedy writer Paul Horan, yodeling lesbian twins don't really work. But for the last 30 years New Zealanders Jools and Lynda Topp have brought their kooky Kiwi sense of humor, political potency and snazzy country music stylings to dazzled audiences -- and now prove dynamite on the big screen.” (Palm Springs International Film Festival)
