This award-winning, groundbreaking film portrays the personal stories behind the phenomenon of surrogate “outsourcing” to India.

Lisa and Brian Switzer are an infertile couple from San Antonio, Texas, who have tried everything to have a child, and have resorted to seeking success from a surrogate. Costing up to $100,000 domestically, the same “procedure” costs roughly $25,000 in India. The Switzers sell their house to travel to India with a Medical Tourism company, while across the globe in Mumbai, Aasia Kahn is implanted with the couple’s embryos.

As Aasia and the Switzers become increasingly tethered together over the course of the pregnancy, a myriad of ethical and political questions emerge about everything from human and reproductive rights, to legal accountability and the concept of motherhood. The personal becomes the political in this compelling and up-to-the-minute documentary.
