Multiple-Best Actress award winner and French film powerhouse Élodie Bouchez takes on a demanding role in Zenia Durra’s atmospheric and intelligent debut feature.
An official selection at Sundance Film Festival and Warsaw Film Festival, Durra’s debut looks at post-9/11 Manhattan as seen through the eyes of young Muslim artist Asya (Bouchez). After the mysterious disappearance of a close friend, the French Manhattanite must battle an ever-present paranoia while struggling to juggle her barhopping lifestyle with a deeply rooted socialist philosophy.
Shot on Super 16, the film's gritty visuals add to the confusion and alienation experienced Asya and her closest friends. The Imperialists Are Still Alive! presents an entirely original vision from Durra, a bold new filmmaking presence.
