Sewitsky directs the performances and camera with confidence and flair, although the succession of Christmastime interiors is rather repetitive, in contrast to the exterior scenes, which breathe fresh dynamism into the pacing. - Hollywood Reporter

Awarded the Narrative World Cinema Grand Jury Prize at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, Happy, Happy, reminiscent of French romantic comedy, shines new light on the intricacies and resilience of adult relationships.

Deep in the remote, snowy Norwegian woods, Kaja lives in relative solitude with an overly optimistic smile on her face, even though her husband hasn’t had sex with her in a year and her son isn’t particularly respectful.  When a sophisticated, “perfect” couple moves in next door, Kaja is overjoyed and welcomes the companionship. But it doesn’t take long before a series of misdeeds snowball into an avalanche that could rend asunder both families.

Exceptionally well acted, with quirky acappella interludes of traditional American spirituals and hymns, award-winning director Anne Sewitsky’s debut feature Happy, Happy abounds with joy, sadness, and the vital spirit of life.
