Rubljovka Chaussee is a 30-km long road leading from Moscow to the Russian countryside. This area has been and still acts like a magnet for the rich and powerful of Russia. Czars, dictators, presidents formerly lived there in the secluded forest of modest dachas. Of late, oligarchs and show business stars have cleared the woods and built million-ruble mansions.

Nowhere else in Russia, a bizarre, self-contained microcosm like this, full of power and history, culture and decadence. The fi lm takes us on a journey through time investigating the nouveau riche (and famous). German-based Irene Langemann received access to this secret world of the new and the old nomenclatura. Growing up in Siberia and Moscow, she was ideally suited to unveil this unknown cosmos. An unexpected, cherished moment is spent with late cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, with the daughter of late composer Dmitri Shostakovich as the tour guide.
