Jellyfish (Meduzot), tells the story of overlapping encounters of three Tel Aviv women who weave a finely realized portrait of modern Israeli life. Batya, a catering waitress, takes in a child abandoned at a local beach. She’s one of the servers at the wedding reception of Keren, a bride who breaks her leg escaping a locked toilet stall, which ruins her chance at a dream Caribbean honeymoon.

Attending the event with an employer is Joy, a middle-aged caregiver for the elderly, who has left her son behind in her native Philippines (and speaks no Hebrew), adrift in a culture not her own. This trio separately wends their ways through Israel’s most cosmopolitan city in this series of elusive encounters but under masterful control.  A collaboration between Israeli fiction writer Etgar Keret and Shira Geffen, his wife, won Cannes 2007 Camera d’Or for best first feature.
