Director: BALTASAR KROMAKUR

A tense re-imagining of the traditional crime thriller, this moody murder mystery from 101 Reykjavik director Kromakur swept Iceland’s 2006 Edda Awards. When jaded, aging police detective Erledur is saddled with the investigation of an elderly drifter’s death, he initially dismisses the case as “a typical Icelandic murder, messy and pointless.”

Soon, however, an increasingly disturbing series of leads brings him in contact with Orn, a tortured geneticist looking for clues in the death of his own young daughter. A massive hit in its country of origin, Jar City has been seen by an estimated one-third of Iceland’s population.  “Intricate and pointed, conjuring a haunting, satisfying puzzle out of violence and chaos.”  — New York Times
