Sunday, April 29th - 11:00am Director: Alexander Leclere A wonderful French “kitchen sink” drama, a tale of two mis-matched sisters, perhaps more aptly described by its French title, Les Soeurs Fâchées (The Angry Sisters)! Growing up in a small town in the provinces, older sister Martine now lives in the Parisian upper middle class with snobbish friends and a boring husband. Her younger sister,Louise – natural and straightforward -- works as a beautician in a provincial town. |
Martine is not pleased when Louise arrives in Paris for a three-day visit, and an appointment with a publisher about the book she has written. And much to Martine’s further displeasure is that everyone around her, including her husband, warmly welcome Louise as a ray of sunshine. Then there is the history with their mother, and that they grew up in an unfashionable part of their town. Alexandra Leclere makes some sharp observations and presents some great scenes, with sisters played by actresses Isabelle Huppert (Martine), and Catherine Frot (Louise) Louise in this delightful, and very French, comedy. Cast: Isabelle Huppert, Catherine Frot, François Berléand, Brigitte Catillon, Michel Vuillermoz
In French with English subtitles, France, 93 minutes, 2005, 35mm.
