Director: Chris Kraus Four Minutes is a well-crafted film telling the story of two scarred women who fight with each other as they confront themselves to hang on to life. A long-time piano teacher at a local women’s prison, Traudel Kruger meets an unapproachable and violent young woman, Jenny von Loeben, recently-admitted to the facility. |
Traudel recognizes her talent, despite resistence, hostile guards and bureaucratic roadblocks. She is determined that Jenny should participate in a national youth music competition. A tender and intense bond develops, in which each bare their souls to each other, with the teacher’s memories of a tragic wartime romance with another outcast girl. The movie culminates in Jenny’s performance and four unforgettable minutes at the finale of the competition. Composer Annette Fock’s powerful musical work complements this emotionally-charged movie. Director Chris Kraus’ film was an audience favorite at the recent Museum of Modern Art Program of New German Films.
