Through a series of interviews with a who’s who of the dance music community, we use the arc of Mel’s life to examine the musical and cultural elements of the 70’s that gave birth to Disco, West End Records’ contribution to that scene, the rise of the Paradise Garage, the onslaught of HIV/AIDS and it’s impact on New York City’s musical and gay communities. The Godfather of Disco examines the evolution and resilient nature of dance music- where it stands today and it’s growth as a global phenomenon.
