Director: Naoko Ogigami Sachie (Satomi Kobahyashi) runs Kamome Shokudo (aka "The Seagull Diner"), a streetcorner restaurant in Helsinki, Finland. She employes Midori (Hairi Katagiri) who just put her finger on the map and ended up in Finland by sheer luck and Masako (Masako Motai) recently stranded in Finland without her luggage . . . |
Business is slow until a mysterious Finnish man (Markku Peltola) appears with special instructions about how to make coffee. What is the connection between this man and the women? Business begins to pick-up and the man is sought out only to uncover a story more incredible then these three Japanese women thought they would find in Finland. Director Naoko Ogigami’s film is based on Yoko Mure’s popular novel by the same name – The Seagull Diner, a cross-cultured gem, has received enthusiastic praise from art house audiences in Finland and Japan.
